Prayers

Prayer for Peace

God of love and mercy, violence and hatred can have no part with you!

Hear our prayers, and grant us peace in our time.

Let all peoples work together to eliminate hatred, violence, prejudice and injustice.

Help us to work together to bring about a just and lasting peace in our world.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace.

AMEN

Our History

Early Catholic Gatherings

Early pioneer Catholic residents of the Windom area related many stories of continuing to worship in their faith in their new homes on the frontier. These were recorded in the 1952 Golden Jubilee Booklet. Some of this history bears repeating at this time.

Knights of Columbus

The Knights of Columbus was founded in 1882 by a 29-year-old parish priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, in the basement of St. Mary's Church in New Haven, Connecticut. Today, more than a century later, the Knights of Columbus has become the largest lay organization in the Catholic Church.

Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to practical Catholic men in union with the Holy See, who are at least 18 years old. A practical Catholic is one who lives up to the Commandments of God and the precepts of the Church. Application blanks are available from any member of the Knights of Columbus.

The central mission of the Order: striving in charitable works; serving the Church and unified in following its teachings; supporting brother Knights in their temporal and spiritual needs; acting for the good of their country; and giving aid to widows, orphans, the sick and the poor. This is Father McGivney's dream, echoing across the century, and living today in the hearts of his brothers and all of those they touch.

Council of Catholic Women

The Windom Council of Catholic Women is an organization for all women of our parish. Every woman, by virtue of being Catholic is a member of WCCW. The structure of the organization is made up of duly elected officers and six Commission chairs appointed to help carry out the programs of the National committee. Dues, which are $7.00, are collected during the month of October. The meetings are held quarterly during the months of February, May, August and November.

All women of WCCW are also members of the Slayton Area, Winona Diocesan Council of Catholic Women and the National Council of Catholic Women. Dues for the Slayton Area are $.25 and the Diocese $2.00 per member. This is paid for all members from the dues collected for the local Council. National Council dues are paid by the Diocese.

The six commissions to carry out the programs of the NCCW are Organization, Church, Family Concerns, Community Concerns, International Concerns and Legislation. These commission programs represent the voice of over 10 million Catholic women, working together, sharing common concerns which reflect current issues in the Church and in Society.

The National Council of Catholic Women Mission Statement:

The National Council of Catholic Women acts through its affiliated organizations to support, empower and educate all Catholic women in spirituality, leadership and service.

NCCW programs respond with Gospel vales to the need of the Church and society in the modern world.

Our St. Francis Xavier parish CCW is involved with many activities. During the winter months, we make quilts for the missions every Thursday at 1:00 pm at the Church Hall. Your help is most welcome. We will be participating at the World Day of Prayer on March 1st at the ALC Church and we also will be involved with the noon Ecumenical Lenten program, serving the lunch on March 13th.

We welcome your participation in our upcoming activities. Do you have any questions? If so, please call Mary Benson at 831-4943 or Clare Bartosh at 831-3228.

We have a separate page posted that contains infomation about other activities that the Windom Council of Catholic Women participates in. Meeting minutes, prayers, and news can be viewed by clicking here.
